Case 1 - Lesson Plan (ESL)
For this lesson plan we had to come up with a lesson that would work for around 25 English as a second language (ESL) sixth and seventh grade students with around 2-3 years of experience with English. Brainstorming of how to approach these students was the most labor intensive process of the whole project. After our online research, we decided to go with a simple, yet effective PowerPoint presentation with vocabulary words. The PowerPoint included more and more words from before as it progressed. After the presentation, we switched to a B-I-N-G-O game that had the vocabulary words there for the learners while the educator showed the picture to help both engage the students and allow them to work together. Finally, we ended with a group discussion asking the students to repeat words for pronunciation and come up with other sentences that the word(s) could be used in. Google Docs was our main Web 2.0 tool that we used. It was a very convenient way to collaborate with the rest of the team members without actually needing to get together. We were able to see the portions that the other(s) did and make corrections when and if they were necessary. We did have some technical issues, but that was due to my computer/router and not the tool itself. That did teach us the frustrations that can sometimes be associated with depending on technology.
